Google and responsive Design

A couple weeks ago Google made an important announcement about the rankings of mobile-friendly websites. From the 21st of April 2015 the ‘mobile-friendliness’ of your website will have a significant impact on your ranking.

You can read the official press release here.

Seeing as the use of mobile phones and other devices to view the web is growing at a super speedy rate, this is a natural step for Google to take. The most recent statistics show that over half of all mobile users say that their smart phone is their primary internet source outside of work - if their job allows access to one. The most recent statistics show that 70% of all internet traffic is coming from devices other than desktop or laptop computers.

Our rebranded TOTECS website is being carefully crafted using responsive design and we can’t wait to show it to you at the launch. It’s been a 6 month long team effort and release day is coming next week. Our clients are definitely listening - we have three brand new websites in development which are fully responsive in design and one which has been converted 3/4 of the way through.

Responsive site implementations dramatically improve user traffic. Shrink your browser down and you can see that the sites adapt according to the browser resolution. In fact, Chrome is the best browser to develop responsive sites on as its development tools are optimised for this workflow.

Til next week,
Kasia
