Living into an Integrated World

G’day,

Before I get started, I want to thank Kasia who has done a tremendous job writing articles on Real Talk over the past 18 months. She is off to flex her TOTECS muscles as she embarks on rolling out a responsive online store for a client down here in Melbourne. It’s an exciting project and we will be by her side all the way through.

Now that Kasia is looking in another direction, we have slightly modified the format for Real Talk which will be delivered on Wednesday every fortnight from now on. Our aim is to offer you current and relevant information drawn from our personal experience and from yours through channels such as the TOTECS community forum. Better still, Real Talk is authored by each of the TOTECS team members so you will get a cross section of views and experiences. We hope you find the new direction relevant and quick to get through.

Living into an Integrated World

There is a broad term flying around our industry called ‘The Internet of Things’. The Internet of Things refers to anything and everything being connected to each other through the internet. It hit the mainstream with the march to mobile but the concept has been in TOTECS since 2001 and transcends the superior evolution of responsive website design (adaptive to all browser sizes) with an interconnected world of applications out of the browser. TOTECS has been integrated with your Accounting/ERP system and payment gateway for years and now we are taking it to a new level. The newly built Data API allows TOTECS to integrate with almost anything and everything connected to the internet and vice verse.

In fact, the Data API has been around since we started rolling out the Connector in 2013. However, most of the work centred around importing data which was necessary for the Connector to work. Now, we are about to release the Data Export API which allows other applications to securely pull data from TOTECS. This is already opening up new frontiers of online ordering possibilities for our clients.

One such wholesale client is allowing their customers (mostly online retailers) to configure their website platforms to access the Data API to download a personalised product catalogue from their TOTECS Platform. Their customers can use the mechanism to post product data on their website including product stock, images and marked up RRP prices. When the customer sells something, an automatic drop-shipment order can be posted to TOTECS which will in turn, post it as a sales order into our clients Accounting/ERP system.

The Data API is just the beginning. Fundamentally, we want to help you to eliminate the weight of manual effort and mistakes that occur in everyday business. SQUIZZ.com will do just that and better still, it is already bolted into the TOTECS Data API. TOTECS will be able to send Purchase Orders back to the end users Accounting/ERP system after submitting an online order. SQUIZZ.com launches in the coming weeks and we invite your participation. Tip of the Week

I spoke to Darren at Model Engines during the week and he wanted to know:
What does the Interface drop down field do when I create a user in the Admin Centre? Go to the online forum http://totecs.gosquizz.com/ecommerce-solutions-forum-post/399-news.html to find out the answer.

Have a question: We encourage our whole community to use the forums. Simply register at totecs.gosquizz.com/forums.html and login to post your questions under the relevant topic area.

Until next time, live the dream.
